At the end of 2003, there were 1,352 licensed commercial TV stations (767 UHF and 585 VHF) and 381 licensed educational TV stations (254 UHF and 127 VHF) in the U.S. There were many more licensed Low Power TV (2,129) and Class A TV (605) stations and an even greater number of TV translators, 4,749. The number of radio stations, AM and FM including translators and boosters totaled 17,397.
