U.K.: Flip MinoHD Debuts

Following its initial release last fall in North America, the HD version of the small, handheld Flip Mino camcorder has reached the United Kingdom this month. The Flip MinoHD weighs in at a modest 3 oz. and sports one-touch recording of what its maker says is 720p.

The unit (both HD and SD) has sometimes been deployed for producing video content by users of YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, and the occasional celebrity—such as CBS News anchorwoman Katie Couric for behind-the-scenes footage of her recent trip to the G-20 Summit in London, most of which she recorded herself.

The HD version of the Flip Mino comes with 4 GB internal memory (upgraded from 2 GB fort standard SD versions). Typically, that's enough to record up to an hour of 720p. Like earlier models sold in North America, the Flip MinoHD shoots 30 fps, with a typical bit-rate of up to 9 MB. According to Flip Mino, it can hold a two-hour charge on two AA batteries. The HD version in the U.K. also includes the unit's signature flip-out USB connector and internal omnidirectional mic.
