Broadcast meteorologists from around the world will descend upon Barcelona, Spain, tomorrow for the opening of the International Association of Broadcast Meteorology. The forum will discuss weather broadcasting issues and look for ways to help viewers adapt to uncertain climate conditions.
The three-day Forum Barcelona 2004 will focus on different themes and feature speakers with expertise in various fields, including the future of weather broadcasting, changing weather conditions and reducing the impact of weather disasters.
Among the program highlights:
- Weather Broadcasting – the next 50 years. Features developments in computer models of the atmosphere, future directions in satellite meteorology and the changing role of national meteorological services.
- Reducing the impact of natural disasters – the role of the weather broadcaster. Topics to be covered are tropical weather disasters, and mid-latitude storms.
- Our changing climate - what is happening and what we can do about it. Among the areas to be covered are: changing sea levels, melting ice-caps and alpine glaciers, temperature changes and desertification.
Weather broadcast-related hardware and software vendors will exhibit as well.
