Time Warner Cable launches Your News Now with efficient news workflow

Your News Now (YNN) in Buffalo, NY, the latest news channel from the local news division of Time Warner Cable, has implemented a Dalet News Suite system as its newsroom and automation system.

YNN covers regional news, weather and sports, 24-hours per day. Viewers can find live breaking news and weather every 10 minutes as well as in-depth coverage of western New York news, politics and sports. Together with other Time Warner Cable news channels, YNN also provides news from across the state, including "Capital Tonight" direct from Albany.

The Dalet-driven workflow integrates production, automation and archiving operations, including Panasonic P2 download and feed ingest, news editing at the desktop and wheel playout from Omneon MediaDeck media servers.

The Dalet media asset management platform combines production editing tools with rundown management and automation. The platform operates on a GigE backbone and includes NetApp production storage, two Omneon MediaDecks that are used for ad hoc ingest as well as main and redundant playout, and a XenData LTO for archiving.

The fully digital workflow relies on Dalet's logging tools, metadata forms and search and browse engine. The Dalet newsroom modules provide editorial tools for planning, rundowns, wires and scripts. Desktop editing, shot selection and package assembly are available at any of the 12 Dalet workstations. There also are a few Dalet clients at other remote TWC locations. Final Cut nonlinear editors are used for advanced craft editing for promo material, and Dalet OnAir controls video playout on both Omneon MediaDeck servers as well automatic triggering of Chyron CGs.
