TI, Radvision Develop 'HD Video Engine' for Array of Devices

Radvision, a provider of video network infrastructure and developer tools for IP and next-gen IP multimedia subsystem networks, recently teamed with Texas Instruments to develop an array of HD products for industry professionals and, thus far, the co-op venture has resulted in new video engine technology that the firms say costs less than traditional solutions.

A primary goal of the joint project is to provide tools to enable developers to build high-end HD interactive video terminals and other options suitable for the development of video communications-enabled devices. The firms cite both the consumer marketplace and the "enterprise" community as potential users—with products including HD sets, projectors, video phones, set-top boxes, LCD production monitors, surveillance products and laptops.

The firms' HD infrastructure consists primarily of TI's video communications demo board (a design incorporating TI's digital media processors based on DaVinci technology) and Radvision's BEEHD, an HD interactive video engine for developers.

TI's DM6467 processor allows simultaneous video encoding and decoding at 720p/30 fps.
