Thorpe Lands at Canon

Canon USA, a subsidiary of Canon Inc., appointed Larry Thorpe to the position of national marketing executive for its broadcast and communications division. Credited with helping to pioneer HD and digital production in the broadcast and motion picture industry, Thorpe recently retired from his post as senior vice president of content creation systems for the broadcast and production division at Sony. In his new role, he will help Canon to expand its position in the broadcast lens market.

Thorpe, a graduate of Dublin's College of Technology, joined Sony Electronics in 1982, where he spent more than 20 years in HDTV development. Prior to Sony, he worked for RCA's broadcast division from 1966 to 1982, where he developed a range of color television cameras and telecine equipment. In 1981, he won the David Sarnoff Award for innovations in studio color cameras, and he also holds ten patents in broadcast development.
