Thomson expands Grass Valley ViBE platform with MPEG-4 encoder

Thomson has announced it will introduce an MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoder that solves bandwidth limitations within the emerging broadband markets.

This new Grass Valley brand encoder, part of the company’s Video Broadband Evolution (ViBE) product line, leverages the Thomson 3G compression chip, which is designed for high-end broadcasting applications, including direct-to-home (DTH) satellite, digital terrestrial and ADSL uses. Available in 1RU and 5RU versions, it features best-in-class video compression as well as solutions for transport over IP/MPLS, ATM, PDH or SONET/SDH backbones.

The new dual-pass ViBE MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoder offers highly reliable bandwidth-management performance, compact ergonomics and low cost of ownership.
