The NAB Announces Long-Term Technology Advocacy Program

The National Association of Broadcasters has announced the formation of a long-term technology advocacy program aimed at the development and commercialization of new broadcast technologies, concentrating mainly on over-the-air digital transmission.

The program, named NAB FASTROAD--short for Flexible Advanced Services for Television and Radio On All Devices--is a product of NAB’s Technology Advocacy Committee, which undertook a yearlong decision-making investigation. Their study included briefings by outside consultants, economic and technical analysis of technology developments, and technical review of potential projects. After reviewing the work, the NAB Board of Directors decided to initiate the program based on the group’s findings.

A committee made up of NAB executive staff, Board members, and representatives from NAB broadcast member organizations will manage NAB FASTROAD. A technical committee, made up of NAB member company engineers and staff from the NAB Science and technology department, will make decisions on what projects are selected and implemented.

The NAB2007 electronic media show will be held in Las Vegas from April 14th to the 19th. Visit www.nabshow.com for more information.
