Sprint-Nextel is not the only company with an interest in relocating broadcast auxiliary ENG and fixed links from old band-plan channels 1 and 2 in the 1990-2025 MHz band. TerreStar networks will use part of this spectrum for its IP-based mobile communications network using satellites and ancillary terrestrial sites. Last week it announced that the company had signed a letter of intent with the Government of Bermuda to take the first steps toward designing and building satellite operations facilities in Bermuda.

From Bermuda, TerreStar will be able to carry out satellite operations for its planned European network as well as operations covering North America.
