President Bush has nominated Deborah Taylor Tate, a Republican, for a full five-year term on the FCC.
Tate, a former Nashville attorney, has served as a commissioner since being chosen by Bush in 2005 to complete the term of former FCC chairman Michael Powell. That term expires on June 30.
Tate is a former director and chairwoman of the Tennessee Regulatory Authority. She once worked on the staff of former governor and now Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-TN, who introduced her at her first confirmation hearing.
Tate’s nomination must now be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. If confirmed, her new term would last until June 30, 2012.
