Tandberg Television Advancing Next-Generation IPTV

Phone firms interested in bundling HD, SD and VOD with traditional telco services to compete with cable and satellite are being courted by Tandberg Television these days. Last week at SUPERCOMM 2005 in Chicago, the company demonstrated its advanced compression and on-demand Internet Protocol platforms for HD products, tapping into MPEG-4 AVC and Windows Media Video 9 for DSL-fed IPTV.

Advances in bit-rate encoding now offers telcos a weapon to compete with recent HD advances in DBS technology, according to the company. Tandberg Television is also showcasing its award-winning, on-demand products under its new N2 On-Demand Solutions brand, poised to help telcos build an on-demand platform that rivals those offered by cable operators. N2 On-Demand Solutions is the company's latest product line, featuring a range of products for content production, inventory management, and program distribution, is an integral part of its expansion into the on-demand entertainment world.

At upcoming trade shows, Tandberg Television will show its two HD encoders based on its proprietary Intelligent Compression Engine (ICE), unveiled in early June.
