Tandberg Promotes EMEIA Director to GM, Americas

UK-based Tandberg Television promoted its director of sales, EMEIA (Europe, Middle East, India and Africa) Dan Desmet to the position of general manager for the Americas. He will be replaced by Eric Baron, an international Telcoms professional who previously held senior sales positions with GN Netcom, Ericsson France and Motorola. The company hopes the move will broaden its presence in the professional video compression market, as well as telecommunications, broadband, cable and VOD.

Belgium-native Desmet first worked in the United States in 1984 establishing American operations for Barco. He began his career with Tandberg in 1998 when it was the digital broadcasting business of NDS. Made director of sales EMEIA in 2002, he has since helped to restructure its sales team. On his new position, Desmet said the company has HDTV, VOD and advanced compression (AVC) equipment that "Americans are looking for to meet their business model challenges."
