Studio Berlin shoots UEFA EURO 2008 coverage with new HD super slo-mo cameras

Outside broadcast (OB) specialist Studio Berlin Adlershof used the new Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8300 high-speed, super slow-motion (slo-mo) camera to cover the UEFA EURO 2008 soccer group playoffs, quarter finals, semi-finals and final, which was played June 29.

The new Thomson Grass Valley LDK 8300 super slo-mo camera captures video at 150 HD fields per second — three times the 50 fields per second rate of traditional HD cameras in Europe, combined with a high HD signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio resulting in the high-quality slo-mo replays. A new fiber interface delivers the high data rate produced by the LDK 8300 back to the servers in the OB truck.

The camera also incorporates Thomson’s Anylight antiflicker system, which eliminates perceived changes in light levels due to any differences in the main's power frequency and synchronization with artificial lights. The UEFA EURO 2008 championships are played under a variety of floodlight types, and LDK 8300 super slo-mo pictures with Anylight delivered flicker-free HD super slo-mo shots.

Studio Berlin Adlershof’s OB truck, U6, was equipped with seven LDK 8300 cameras and 26 LDK 6000 and LDK 8000 cameras for coverage of the UEFA EURO 2008. OB truck company VCF also used Thomson Grass Valley HD sports production equipment during the championships.
