EchoStar Communications has contracted Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) to build EchoStar XIV, which will provided expanded services to DISH Network's 13 million direct-to-home subscribers.
The satellite, the fourth SS/L bird to be put into service by EchoStar, will provide added power and capacity to offer advanced DTH services, such as HDTV, said EchoStar VP Rohan Zaveri.
