Spectrum of South Korea has announced the pending international ramp up of a small indoor HD antenna that can be used with built-in, standalone, or PC-based digital tuners.
The unit, which won a Korean government innovative design award, employs Planar Inverted F Antenna (PIFA) and broadband reception technologies that PIFA proponents say produces acceptable performance, despite its compact size and indoor location.
But there still are more questions than answers regarding the PIFA unit, including price points and its eventual availability in North America, Europe and elsewhere. The BBC is involved in the early stages of a one-year terrestrial HD test through the London metro area, where Spectrum's sleek-looking indoor unit may be tested (albeit, not with the BBC's endorsement).
