Snell & Wilcox production switcher drives NAB-HD model TV station

The new Snell & Wilcox SD/HD Kahuna production switcher will play a central role at NAB-HD, the fully functional, multi-vendor NAB2005 demonstration of what local broadcast stations can achieve with digital technology. Kahuna will be located in the Greene HD Productions mobile unit, which is being used for studio operations and control.

Kahuna integrates SD and HD sources in a single control panel and mainframe, without the need for upconversion. Greene HD Productions will be able to switch SD and/or HD signals for the NAB-HD broadcasts with minimal equipment reconfiguration.

The NAB-HD demonstration illustrates how Kahuna’s ability to switch signals of virtually any type can help to extend the useful life of broadcasters’ existing SD hardware, and thus deliver tremendous cost savings during the migration toward HD production.

Greene HD Productions’ mobile unit will deploy the Kahuna to receive, switch, and distribute inputs from a variety of 720p and 1080i studio and ENG cameras. Kahuna can also accommodate any SD input from cameras, graphics, and archives and integrate these seamlessly into HD productions.

NAB-HD will be broadcast in the North Hall of the LVCC and throughout many of the hotels in Las Vegas. For more information, visit www.snellwilcox.com.
