With a focus on meeting the needs of stations in transition, Snell & Wilcox is introducing a series of infrastructure products at NAB 2004 (Booth #C6421) that will help broadcast engineers to adapt their plants quickly and cost-effectively.
Snell & Wilcox's existing IQ modular line has been expanded to now include 17 new format conversion, synchronization, signal routing, audio processing and distribution amplification modules. All are capable of operating in either standard- or high-definition (SD/HD) resolutions.

The new modules include the broadcast industry’s first 16-channel audio “re-multiplexer” technology‚ according to Snell, that offers the capability to de-embed and re-embed audio within the same module. It includes full support for Dolby E multichannel audio coding. The expanded line features improved signal processing and fidelity. This results in very low return loss and the ability to equalize long cable lengths.
Significantly, the new Snell & Wilcox IQ modules will have built-in “signal integrity protection,” which ensures that if the video input to the audio multiplexer is interrupted, then the module generates digital black and continues embedding the audio. If the audio input is lost, then the module takes over and embeds silence.
Like all Snell & Wilcox products, the new IQ modules are fully compliant with the company’s RollCall network control and monitoring system. With RollCall, users quickly and easily monitor their entire network operation--whether in a single rack or distributed across the globe--from a single PC.
At NAB2004, Snell & Wilcox said it would demonstrate how its advanced and networked modules solve real-world DTV transition problems for broadcasters by enabling them to connect and control analog, digital, high-definition, and file-based IT “islands” of equipment.
