Carl Girod, SMPTE's director of engineering, recently announced his retirement from the standards organization.
Girod, who has been with SMPTE for 11 years, said that he would be working with SMPTE headquarters during the transitional period.
During his career with the organization, Girod oversaw several innovations to the SMPTE engineering department and contributed in great measure to motion imaging industry standards development.
The SMPTE Executive Committee, Board of Governors, Headquarters Staff, along with many members of the organization have extended their best wishes to Girod in his retirement and plan a tribute to him in the April issue of the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal. The organization has requested that others wishing to express their retirement wishes to Girod should e-mail them to edit@smpte.org.
