SGI to showcase InfiniteStorage solutions for production, broadcast at NAB2004

SGI InfiniteStorage solutions optimize workflow throughout the facility by providing true file sharing at production speeds with a choice of both NAS and SAN storage architectures.

Using an IP-based infrastructure, broadcast material can be shared at 25 times real-time rates.

The SGI InfiniteStorage solution for the production area replicates a post-production workflow with applications from Alias, Apple, Discreet, mental images and Quantel. With SGI CXFS, multiple content creation seats on any operating system can now share SD, HD and 2K files. Simultaneous support for Mac OS X, IRIX, Windows XP, 32- and 64-bit Linux clients will be featured.

Debuting at NAB2004 will be the recently released Mac OS X client on CXFS shared file system and the new Guaranteed Rate I/O (GRIO V.2) feature that enables the scheduling of dedicated bandwidth on a SAN for applications that require guaranteed real-time performance.

The SGI Altix 350, an Intel Itanium 2-based Linux mid-range technical server for rendering, also will debut at the show.

The SGI InfiniteStorage solution for broadcast features a data-centric broadcast workflow. The SGI Media Server for broadcast has enhanced MXF capabilities, incorporates CXFS, MassTech for low-res browse, proxy and archive, Pinnacle Liquid Blue for collaborative MPEG-2 editing, and playout using multiple SGI Media Server for broadcast servers under the control of Harris automation.
