Seven in 10 IBC2008 attendees come from Western Europe, Scandinavia

Final attendance figures for IBC2008 reveal that the total number of people attending the convention reached 49,250, of which 32,046 were categorized as visitors and 16,204 were exhibitors, according to newly released totals from the event’s organizers.

By geographical region, Western Europe and Scandinavia dominated the attendance. Attendees from the combined regions made up 71.26 percent of the total, while those from Central Europe accounted for 3.69 percent and Eastern European attendees accounted for 2.83 percent.

Outside of Europe, the figures reveal attendees from North America making up 8.61 percent of the total; Asia, 8.07 percent; the Middle East, 2.59 percent; Africa, 1.11 percent; and South America, .76 percent.

Organizers of the convention also released information on the types of people who attended this year’s convention. Those working in manufacturing accounted for 19.34 percent of the total, while those employed by broadcast stations or networks made up 15.69 percent of the total. Dealer/distributors were the next largest category with 10.95 percent; those working in post production accounted for 8.17 percent; production, 7.78 percent. Other groups represented included consultants, freelancers, cable and satellite distributors, Web developers and studio and equipment hire companies.

According to the figures, there were 1451 exhibitors at this year’s convention.
