Senators support Adelstein for continued stay at FCC
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said last week that all members of the Senate Commerce Committee plan to sign a bipartisan letter of support to the White House endorsing the renomination of Jonathan Adelstein for a Democratic seat at the FCC.
Adelstein’s term at the agency expired in June 2003. He’s still there under a legal loophole. But, under the law, if he’s not officially renominated by the White House and reconfirmed by the Senate, he will have to vacate his agency office when Congress adjourns this year.
Formerly an aide for Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D), Adelstein has had tough going in the FCC nomination process. Early last year Daschle urged the White House to give Adelstein another go-round at the agency. But, the White House hasn't moved on the request for almost 18 months.
