Scripps Taps Snell & Wilcox for HD Channel Ingest
Scripps Networks has standardized on Snell & Wilcox Memphis encoders for ingesting all HDTV content at Scripps' new HGTV high-definition service.
Two Memphis systems have been installed at Scripp's Knoxville, Tenn. broadcast operations center as part of the infrastructure supporting HGTV and the Food Network in HD, which was launched in June of this year.
"Picture quality is paramount for an HDTV service, so in the early planning stages of our HDTV service, we conducted comparison tests among encoding solutions in order to make sure we would make the best choice," said Jerry Nantz, chief engineer at Scripps Networks. "Integration of the MEMPHIS was easy, and Snell & Wilcox was helpful in recommending the right configurations for our operations."
HGTV HD began operations on April 10, 2006. Ascent Media was selected as systems integrator for both HGTV and the Scripps operations center.
