Satellite Update

Before the demolition of the Stardust Hotel earlier this year, XM Radio Inc. removed its terrestrial repeater from the top of the hotel. It is now seeking special temporary authority (STA) to operate a replacement terrestrial repeater in Las Vegas on top of Harrah's Casino Hotel for a period of 180 days. This replacement repeater would operate with an effective isotropically radiated power (EIRP) of 1,068 watts on XM Radio's licensed frequency band--2332.5 to 2345 MHz. From FCC Report SAT-00437.

In Report SAT-00436, the FCC International Bureau's Policy Branch designated this XM Radio application a "permit-but-disclose" proceeding for ex parte communication purposes. The Policy Branch granted XM Radio STA to operate indoor terrestrial repeaters with an EIRP of up to 0.5 watts and 0.0001 watts at promotional events, press events, and tradeshows at locations and dates yet to be identified, for a period of 30 days, starting April 13. The FCC also granted EchoStar Satellite Operating Corp.'s request for STA to conduct telemetry, tracking and control operations on a nonharmful interference basis at 110.4 degrees west longitude (WL), sufficient to maintain the EchoStar 6 satellite as an in-orbit spare with +/- 0.05 degrees longitudinal station keeping.
