San Francisco’s KNTV-TV Switches to HD Local News
By TVTechnology published
The NBC affiliate in San Francisco (Nielsen DMA no. 6), KNTV-TV, became the fourth commercial broadcast outlet in the market to convert its local news programming to HD last weekend.
The station, which is transmitting its HD signal in 1080i, is an O&O of NBC Universal.
KNTV-TV follows KTVU-TV (Fox), KGO (ABC) and KPIX-TV (CBS) into local news HD programming.
According to a running monthly tally in Television Broadcast, the total number of markets with at least some local news programming airing in HD likely will reach at least 60 by the end of July. Yet at least a dozen states in different parts of the nation have no local news programming in HD at all so far.
