SABC Television turns to EVS for AIDS concert production

Air Time TV Outside Broadcasts, a subsidiary of SABC Television, chose EVS equipment to broadcast and store all footage of the live 46664 Concert held Dec. 1, 2007, in Johannesburg, South Africa, to raise awareness of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic.

To broadcast and archive the event in HD, the Air Time OB van used five six-channel HD XT[2] servers to ingest 16 HD camera feeds of the shows, which lasted about six hours in total.

The EVS Multicam LSM was used for live replay and on-the-fly editing. One operator was dedicated to creating a playlist that would cut out the on-stage switchover time between acts.

The backup of all footage was managed using four EVS XFile[2]s with 10 removable 750GB hard drives, all running XFile software and XStream modules. EVS' tapeless technology allowed storage to be done simultaneously with the live broadcast and ingest. The XT[2] with Multicam LSM application was also employed.
