RCN Corp. has signed a multi-year contract with Thompson Hotels to provide digital cable services, including HD content, to about 140 guest rooms at the new Thompson Hotel in New York City.
As a hotel that was designed to draw celebrities and VIPs to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, a Thompson spokeswoman said a healthy amount of DTV and HD in-room services was seen as one of the vital keys for the hotel’s eventual success. RCN built its digital media infrastructure into the facility as the hotel was being built.
RCN, based in Herndon, Va., said it’s one of the largest facilities-based providers of bundled cable, broadband and phone services to deliver content over its own fiber optic network to residential and commercial customers in the most densely populated American markets. Thompson runs more than 65 hotels in North America.
