Public station and Triveni Digital to demonstrate DTV datacasting for homeland security at NAB2003

The Triveni Digital SkyScraper aggregates multiple data feeds for insertion into digital broadcast streams.

Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB), a state network of six non-commercial television stations, has teamed up with an emergency notification service for the petrochemical industry and broadcast equipment maker Triveni Digital to demonstrate a homeland security broadcasting application in the Triveni Digital booth (#SU5475) at NAB. The application allows terrestrial DTV stations to deliver Emergency Alert System (EAS) notifications using datacasting through its on-air digital signal. The system will be deployed in Baton Rouge, La., at LPB’s facility to expand the delivery capabilities of PBS stations in Louisiana.

The group's newly developed wireless platform uses Triveni Digital's SkyScraper datacasting system and application developed by the www.i-notification.net emergency notification service. A PC equipped with a DTV tuner card receive these terrestrial broadcast signals. The companies said rich media files carrying related medical symptoms, details and diagnosis procedures, escape routes, locations of shelters and other important life-saving information could be distributed along with the alert.
