ProTV to launch Romania’s first HDTV channel

ProTV, a leading Romanian television channel, is launching a new high definition service later this year and will become the first high definition channel in Romania.

The channel, ProTV HD, is scheduled to begin experimental transmission in Bucharest Dec. 1, the 11th anniversary of its launch.

Penetration of HDTV in urban areas of Romania, which accounts for about 53 percent of the population, is expected to grow in the next three to five years, as more digital licenses will be released in Romania. The country, reportedly, has experienced a 60 percent increase in the sale of plasma and LCD displays this year.

ProTV has selected TSL to provide systems integration for its new HD service. The contract includes building a new HD studio and the associated HD transmission facilities. For more information, visit www.protv.ro and www.tsl.co.uk.
