Path 1 CX1000 video gateway critical to Super Bowl fiber transmission
Using an MPLS enabled fiber network operated by Vyvx, a division of WilTel Communications, Path 1 supplied its CX1000 video gateway, which enables uncompressed, broadcast-quality video to be sent over IP networks without the usual impairment characteristics typically associated with delivering Video-over-IP.
This marks the first time that the primary haul and backhaul for a live Super Bowl broadcast has been sent using a packet-based network, and the first time that satellite has been displaced by an alternative technology at a live event.
