Packet Vision Demos 'Proof of Concept' Delivery Platform at TelcoTV

Packet Vision, a U.K.-based developer of a new delivery platforms for IPTV, demonstrated its "proof of concept" at TelcoTV 2005.

The U.K.-based company combines a media server, splicer, play-out router and management system in a single pizza box-style enclosure intended for IPTV. The 19-inch rack-mounted box--slated for an early 2006 launch--will support up to 200 IPTV subscriber groups and up to 200 input channels. The device was designed for scalability, according to Packet Vision.

With the platform, demographic groups can be targeted, drilling down to specific households, or even TV sets, according to Packet Vision. The system also gathers information about viewers' reactions, enabling advertisers to see whether an ad was used to explore new, interactive forms of advertising.
