OpenTV Acquires Ruzz TV

OpenTV Core nX interface San Francisco-based OpenTV Corp. has acquired Ruzz TV Pty Ltd, a privately-held company based in Australia that provides turnkey software solutions for television broadcasters. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Ruzz TV's technology provides broadcasters with a platform that enables the optimization of broadcast play-out operations by integrating systems and components supplied by multiple vendors, according to the companies. This allows the rapid deployment of flexible solutions across a broad range of operational areas. It also manages the actual assembly and transmission of the audio-video stream broadcast to viewers.

Ruzz TV was founded in 1999 by Robert Rutherford and has 10 employees based in Sydney, Australia. Rutherford will stay on with Ruzz TV.

OpenTV's software has been integrated in more than 111 million devices around the world, enabling enhanced program guides, VOD and interactive and addressable advertising.
