Omneon acquires IPTV specialist Castify Networks

Looking to expand its reach into new markets that involve the automated management and distribution of video signals, Omneon has acquired Castify Networks, a U.K.-based provider of software-based solutions for managing the distribution of digital content over the Internet and private Intranets. Applications include IPTV, hotel VOD, digital cinema and digital signage.

Customers use Castify’s service-oriented architecture (SOA) solutions to build cost-efficient service delivery platforms for content distribution over public and private networks. For example, the company’s EBN and CBN modular platforms allow companies to deploy digital content delivery platforms across globally distributed locations that are used to distribute, monitor and manage media assets.

The two companies have already worked to develop supports for each other’s technology. At NAB2007, Castify showed support for the Omneon MediaGrid active storage system and Spectrum media server platform.

As broadcasters and other media companies adopt file-based workflows, there is a growing need to be able to manage and distribute their content throughout their own internal networks and over the Internet to growing numbers of business partners. Castify’s distribution infrastructure combined with Omneon digital content storage systems will provide customers with an integrated solution for managing media across those extended networks.
