NCTA calls for technical papers

The National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) is looking for technical papers to be presented at its National Show, to be held May 2-5, 2004, in New Orleans, LA. The 2004 National Show marks the 53rd anniversary of the cable industry's largest convention and international exposition.

Potential authors/speakers should submit written proposals using the Proposal Submission Form by December 15, 2003.

The technical paper proposals will be judged by a panel of NCTA Engineering Forum members, chaired by Dan Pike, Chief Technical Officer, GCI Cable, Inc.

The NCTA said that any topic of interest to broadband cable and telecommunications engineering managers is eligible, although no previously published texts or marketing pieces will be considered.

Topics of particular interest include: approaches to low-cost terminal device design; home networking, wireless communications and its role in cable; DVR/PVR hardware and software design and implementation; bandwidth management and maximizing bandwidth utilization; conditional access and digital rights management; VoIP; and other advanced broadband technology topics.

Selected authors will be notified in late January. Speakers are responsible for their own travel and registration arrangements and fees.
