NBC4 offers commuters real-time traffic-cam views on their mobile devices

NBC4 in Burbank, CA, is launching NBC Los Angeles Traffic Cam, a free service for mobile phone users providing live, up-to-the-second traffic information for Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties.

The NBC O&O, which is partnering with 3rd Dimension for the launch, will provide daily commuters in Los Angeles with views of traffic tie-ups on their mobile devices. The advertising-supported service is powered by 3rd Dimension’s Mobileyes software.

With access to a network of more than 270 live, roadside cameras operated by Caltrans District 7, NBC Los Angeles Traffic Cam can help data-enabled cell phone users plan their commutes more carefully and avoid gridlock areas.

Once users install the software on their mobile devices, they can select the cameras along their routes from easy-to-use menus. Freeways, highways and city streets are available with full-motion video or up-to-the-second still photos. Favorite routes can be stored and accessed quickly with a push of a single button.
