NAB2007: Super Session to Examine Global HD Picture

NAB President and CEO David Rehr, attending his second Las Vegas show as the association's top executive, will join a panel of experts to discuss the various stages of HD deployment currently taking place globally in an international NAB2007 Super Session late in the afternoon of the final full day of the convention, Wednesday, April 18, at 4-5:30 p.m.

Joining Rehr for "The Global Picture on HDTV Deployment: Lessons Learned, Mistakes to Avoid" will be Pierre Helsén of the Sweden Digital TV Commission; Sebastian Loudon of Rundfunk & Telekom in Austria; Lim Chin Siang of IT&T Media Development Authority in Singapore; and Keith Smith of the Department for Culture Media and Sport in the United Kingdom.

Jonathan Collegio, NAB vice president for Digital Television Transition, also will participate in the session, which he said will serve to provide a "worldwide perspective on better understanding the massive digital transition currently going on in many nations." There is still time to learn from others--both pro and con, Collegio said--since most countries are only now in the midst of their transitions, or have not yet begun. Some nations, such as Canada, are transitioning now, but have not yet set a firm analog cutoff deadline like the U.S. and some other countries.

The annual NAB meet gets underway this weekend with the Broadcast Engineering Conference and other events. (The PBS Tech Conference, not an official NAB event, is being held this week at the MGM Grand.) The newly expanded and partially reconfigured LVCC exhibits will be open April 16-19. The last few shows have pulled in more than 100,000 attendees annually.
