Media Bureau postpones launch of nationwide LPTV, TV translator licensing

The Media Bureau has postponed until July 26 the initiation of a national first-come, first-served licensing for LPTV and TV translator stations.

Originally scheduled to begin Jan. 25, the nationwide licensing is for new digital-only low power television (LPTV) and TV translator stations and for major changes to existing analog and digital LPTV and TV translator facilities.

The additional time will give the bureau time to finish processing applications submitted beginning Aug. 25, 2009, for licenses covering rural areas. It also will give filers more time to prepare their applications, the Media Bureau said.
