At the recent IBC2009 in Amsterdam, German console manufacturer Lawo presented its redesigned mc²66 digital mixing console. The new version of this desk includes a new router board and a new operating surface with upgraded hardware designed for even more user-friendly and intuitive operation. A number of new features have also been added.
The console’s control surface has been designed using suggestions from the global mc²66 user community, building on Lawo’s successful optic and haptic hardware concepts. New features added to the console include OLED displays, FC4/second layer operation, touch screens, GUI operation and integration of smaller units or external devices in the central section to create even more flexibility.
The new Lawo MKII router offers a routing capacity of 8000 x 8000 crosspoints and includes a fully integrated control system for the mc²66, which can be designed with redundancies according to the production requirements. The control unit for the operating console is placed on the router board, allowing the redundant control system to be replaced during runtime. All the control system data are mirrored from the active to the passive system.
The new mc²66 offers a completely redundant signal path — from the stage box through the DSP channel to the output. Depending on requirements, customers can choose their own level of redundancy and work with different redundancy grades in their configuration regarding the DSP boards, I/O modules or power supply units.
