Italy Considers Reducing Rebate Amid Falling OTA DTV Decoder Prices

Italy's Communication Minister Maurizio Gasparri, speaking at the Com-pa meeting in Bologna, said the 150-Euro state contribution for the purchase of a terrestrial DTV decoder has helped sell over three million decoders. However, due to the drop in the market price of the decoders, the government is thinking of reducing the state contribution to 70 to 80 euro in the next budget law. Italy is also considering contributing to experimentation of interactive television. For more information, see the AGI Italy On Line article Digital TV: Gasparri, Bonus Down to 70 Euro.
