India: ViewSonic Offers Compact 1080p LCD

In the world's second most populous nation with a growing, tech-minded industrious middle class, ViewSonic has begun marketing a relatively small, albeit more widely affordable, HD unit—coming as the current economic downturn affects India, too. Its new model boasts 1080p quality with a 24-inch screen (VX2433wm).

The compact HD set includes a slim-bezel design and a "glossy piano black finish," the firm said, with a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. It's being marketed to Indian video gamers, graphics professionals and HD consumers.

Audio comes from internal surround sound-like speakers ("SRS WOW HD") that ViewSonic said extends frequency range. The display features inputs for HDMI and for DVI with HDCP, which is designed to allow that added connectivity options for video data and HD entertainment.

The 16:9 unit carries MSRP in India for about $440.
