HPA Tech Retreat Turns 10

The Hollywood Post Alliance Technology Retreat will celebrate its 10th anniversary by this coming Jan. 25-28 in Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Before the seminar begins, various training sessions will be held. ATSC will present a half-day seminar about PSIP and the AAF Forum will present the Advanced Authoring Format seminar.

Engineering consultant and technology guru Mark Schubin helped put the program together. Schubin said that everyone from television technology--from chipmakers to moviemakers--would attend.

"Whatever questions you have about anything to do with imaging and sound technology, someone will be there who knows the answer," he said.

During the broadcasters panel, Brad Hunt, senior vice president and CTO of the Motion Picture Association (MPAA) will present a "digital content protection 2005 status report."

Representatives from Digital Cinema Initiatives will explain the reasons behind such decisions as X'Y'Z color space instead of RGB, 12 bits instead of 10 and JPEG2000.

Attendees can also watch presentations about the work on XML that Apple is doing and Adobe's real-time HD technology.
