HDTVs top list of most sought after holiday consumer electronics, says In-Stat

For the third year running, HDTVs rank as the most desired consumer electronics product, topping such favorites as notebook computers and digital cameras, according market research firm In-Stat.

However, In-Stat’s research into consumer holiday shopping plans was a bit of a mixed bag for consumer electronics. While they remain at the top of the holiday wish list, consumer electronics are suffering from a lower intent to purchase than during recent holiday shopping seasons.

The percentage of respondents to an In-Stat consumer survey saying they plan to buy a consumer electronics device has fallen within every market segment, says In-Stat analyst Stephanie Ethier. “In-Stat believes the economy is continuing to take a toll on consumer spending,” she said.

The research, “2009 Holiday Spending on Consumer Electronics,” also found that while e-readers did not make the list of most sought after consumer electronics, the category is growing in popularity.
