HD Film Lights Up Trafalgar

QED Projection recently used HD18K projectors from Christie to display a motion picture classic from India in London’s bustling Trafalgar Square.

This latest film was digitally re-mastered from 35 mm into HD and projected onto an inflatable 50-by-25-foot screen. The movie (open to the first-come, first-served public without admission charge since it’s a public square), was enhanced by a live performance of the London Symphony Orchestra, playing a new score specially written for the occasion.

Both HD18K projectors were double-stacked and fed from two synchronized Sony J-H3 HD-CAM players. Each unit consists of a 3-chip DLP 17,500 ANSI lumen projector, with 10-bit processing in native HD.

The civic event was organized by Film London, the London mayor’s office, and several regional film festivals.
