Group files Freedom of Information Act request for investigation report of journalists’ deaths

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) is seeking a copy of the U.S. military’s classified investigation into the March 18 shooting by U.S. troops of two journalists working for the Dubai-based Arabic satellite news channel Al-Arabiyya.

On Monday, April 5, the group filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for the documents.

The U.S. military has taken responsibility for the Baghdad shooting, which killed cameraman Ali Abdel Aziz and reporter Ali al-Khatib. Both were shot in their car while leaving the scene of a hotel attack, according to CPJ.

The Combined Joint Task Forces 7 has expressed "regret" for the deaths and said the investigation determined that the incident was an "accidental shooting."
