Content management and delivery company GlobeCast completed installation of new state-of-the-art encoding and converting equipment at its broadcast center in Culver City, Calif.
It’s the latest phase in the company’s strategy to upgrade its high-definition infrastructure and form strategic alliances in the Americas in response to growing worldwide demand for the distribution and contribution of HD content.
Using MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD decoders as well as the Snell & Wilcox Alchemist Ph.C HD standards converter with motion compensation, GlobeCast can receive and process HD signals into any international format. It can deliver the signals worldwide using a combination of MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 HD/SD compression.
GlobeCast now also offers advanced modulation standards such as DVB-S2 to connect with GlobeCast’s fiber POPs and 12 teleports on five continents.
The next stage of GlobeCast America’s HD investment will be the upgrade of its play-out facility in Sunrise, Fla., to offer HD play-out and origination. This latest upgrade will mean that all GlobeCast’s facilities in the United States will be fully HD capable.
Globecast is a subsidiary of France Telecom. The company operates 12 teleports and technical operations centers plus 17 offices in Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Australia.
