Global TV Upgrades to HD

Global Television in Melbourne has upgraded to an HD infrastructure relying on Evertz equipment. Global had previously relied on Evertz kit for its OB vehicles.

The Evertz VIP range of HD video display processors formed a part of the new installation with two units purchased. One of these is designated for in-house video monitoring by production and floor staff, while the other forms part of a small outside broadcast kit used in the field for any on-location shoots. The VIP modules themselves fit straight into the standard Evertz 7700 series 3RU frame. By adding further VIP modules to the same frame it is possible for Global to expand the system later on should the need arise. The 3RU enclosure will also house other 7700 series modules meaning it is possible to mix and match a huge variety of components within a single frame.

Global also chose to equip their studios with dual redundant 5600MSC master clock and sync pulse generation (SPG) units, synchronized via GPS and featuring both SD and HD test signal generation options. Switching between the two SPGs occurs automatically thanks to an Evertz Automatic Changeover Unit (ACO) which is able to monitor both 5600MSC units for any potential faults and instantly switch to the alternate redundant SPG. Evertz products are distributed in Australia and New Zealand by Quinto Communications.
