'Gears of War' Xbox Game Sales Surpass Two Million

As the Microsoft versus Sony battle of the gaming consoles continues in full throttle this season (at least where any of the units might be available), Microsoft is seeing some good numbers. The company said, to date, it has sold more than 2 million copies globally of the "Gears of War" game, which is only playable on its Xbox 360.

The game, which is a product of Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games was released less than two months ago, according to Reuters.

Xbox 360 consoles are compatible with separately sold HD DVD disc drives, while the Sony PlayStation 3 has an internal Blu-ray Disc drive. "Gears of War" was the best-selling video game in America in November, too, with an estimated 1 million units sold and sales of more than $61 million, according to market research firm NPD. An added attraction for many new games designed for both firms' consoles is HD quality.
