Fox Cable upgrades to Harmonic encoders, multiplexers

Harmonic's DiviCom MPEG video encoders are now operational at two Fox Cable facilities. The MPEG-2 encoding and advanced statistical multiplexing systems compress and combine regional and national content into multiple standard definition and high-definition channels.

Harmonic has announced that Fox Cable Group upgraded its two broadcast uplink sites with its DiviCom MPEG video encoders and DiviTrackXE statistical multiplexers.

Now operational, the Houston, Tex. and Los Angeles, Calif. facilities use the Harmonic products to deliver cable networks—including Fox Sports Net, F/X and other cable programming—in digital video formats to thousands of video headends.

Harmonic’s MPEG-2 encoding and advanced statistical multiplexing systems compress and combine regional and national content into multiple standard definition and high-definition channels. These channels are distributed via satellite to cable, direct-to-home satellite and other carrier network headends across the continent.

Each MPEG transport stream produced by the Harmonic encoding systems contains digital cue tones compliant with the recently ratified SCTE35 standard for Digital Program Insertion (DPI).
