FOR-A includes Dolby E support in HD frame rate converter

FOR-A has added Dolby E digital audio support for its FRC-7000 HD frame rate converter.

The inclusion of the function within the FRC-7000 3RU chassis not only removes the need for a large amount of additional peripheral audio processing, but also ensures that the audio keeps in step with the video output of the converter.

With many live events now available in Dolby 5.1 and it being the audio standard for mastering DVDs, HD-DVDs and Blu-ray discs, Dolby E coding is increasingly being used in the transport of program audio.

Having the Dolby E handled inside the video converter saves cost, space and setup time compared to the alternative external equipment. With the Dolby E data locked to the video frames, it must be decoded with the input frames and recoded locked to the output video frames. Because the input and output are always different frame rates, this can add to the complexity when using separate external Dolby E handling.
