ESPN launches HD VOD

ESPN has announced that high-definition video-on-demand (VOD) is now available to all of its cable operator affiliates. At first, the service will offer one college football and basketball game each week, with expansion as the network increases its output of HD-produced sporting events.
ESPN HD VOD will offer subscribers NCAA men’s basketball coverage and will highlight top teams including Kansas, Connecticut, Duke, Illinois, Maryland, Marquette and North Carolina. Games from the Big East and Big Ten tournaments will air in March and be made available on demand in HD, along with the championship game of the Big 12 Tournament.
College football match-ups that can be made available to viewers with ESPN HD VOD include Tennessee at Auburn, Ohio State at Wisconsin, Miami at Virginia Tech and Virginia Tech at Pittsburgh. Bowl games such as the Peach Bowl in Atlanta or the Outback Bowl in Tampa will be made available also.
