Led by Rob Alberino, VP of broadcasting, and his staff of award-winning producers/videographers, the Philadelphia Eagles Television Network (ETN) creates original programming throughout the year that will air during the next football season.
Beginning earlier this year, ETN has been shooting all of its features, interviews and show elements in HD with three Panasonic AJ-HPX3000 native 1080p one-piece camcorders to create a half-dozen 30-minute weekly TV shows. Alberino experimented with the HPX3000 during the Pro Bowl in Honolulu and reported that it performed flawlessly. In its 12th season, ETN is known for its compelling programs and features that capture the essence of the Philadelphia Eagles and the team’s fans.
The shows air September through January on a variety of networks, including FOX Philadelphia, ABC affiliate WPVI-TV and Comcast SportsNet. The Eagles Kids Club has proved to have such widespread appeal that FOX broadcasts it all year. All of the shows will air in HD coming this fall. ETN has purchased 20 32GB P2 cards and has three shooters working non-stop with the cameras. The HPX3000s are outfitted with Canon HJ 22x7.6 HD lenses and W80 HD wide-angle adapters. Data recorded onto the P2 cards is downloaded to 500GB Western digital hard drives. Segments and elements are edited on Avid systems and program masters reside on an Avid Unity media network. Footage will be archived on Quantum LTO drives.
The network presently shoots in 1080i DVCPRO HD, but plans to transition to the AVC-Intra compression codec later this year. Alberino also bought a compact (1lb) AG-HSC1U AVCHD camcorder that he will use for POV shots in vehicles such as racecars and helicopters.
